The Program
2017-18 Year

While earning their THR!VE Bronze degree, your child gets to experience *13* spectacular courses over a 10-month period (September 2017 through June 2018).  Courses – most of which span 3 or 4 sessions – are offered on Wednesday and Thursday evenings on a rotational schedule throughout the school year (with a few exceptions, as noted).  Simply choose which offerings work best for your family!  All off-site components of the Trip Series courses will be taken by charter bus.  Most courses are intentionally offered either just before or just after meal times; in the case of the few exceptions, you will be notified well ahead of time if your child should bring snacks from home or if a meal will be provided.  Here’s what your child gets as a THR!VE Bronzer:

Individual Mentorship
Ongoing, year-round
Quality one-on-one time with Wendy, Creator & Teacher-Mentor of THR!VE Education.  From the very first conversation, your child will feel known and appreciated, and receive a depth of encouragement and inspiration they’ve rarely experienced.  Some mentorship sessions will be scheduled well in advance while others will take place more informally, on an “as needed” or “as desired” basis.  The point?  Your child (and you!) will have unlimited access to Wendy’s loving personalized attention and support as they develop into a leader of tomorrow.

Dreams & Decisions: What Learning, Living & THR!VING Is All About
Fall offering: Wednesday, September 13, 20, 27 from 6:30-8:30pm
Winter offering: Wednesday, February 7, 14, 21 from 4:00-6:00pm

Your child will explore what “thriving” means, discover the three steps to becoming the best they can be, and begin setting short and long term goals for their future.  They will depict their dreams visually on a Dream Board to take home and add to/adjust for months and years to come.  This course features the relaxing instrumental music videos of Tim Janis and the dazzling photography of National Geographic.

Nature’s Peace: Forests & Fairies
Fall offering: Wednesday, October 4, 11, 18, 25 from 4:00-6:00pm
Spring offering: Wednesday, May 2, 9, 16, 23 from 6:00-8:00pm

The joy and delight of quiet time in the woods, creating magical miniatures out of natural materials at the base of the trees.  From fairy cottages to castles, balconies to bridges, gazebos to gardens – your child will use nothing but their imagination (and a simple toolkit!) as they breathe in the fresh scents of nature while gaining a deeper appreciation for the mental and physical health benefits of tinkering in the forest at sunset.

Public Speaking & The Written Word: Back to the Basics of Strong Communication
Spring offering: Wednesday, April 11, 18, 25 from 6:30-8:30pm
An introduction to the life skills of confidently and professionally commanding an audience, and – finally – correctly commanding a pencil and paper!  This fun training on oral and written communication clarifies what public speaking is (and what it isn’t), teaches the basic mechanics of writing (every mark on the page has a meaning and a purpose), instills the verbal and visual components of strong public speaking, and gives ample hands-on practice learning how to effectively use a “live” microphone while delivering an exceptionally prepared written speech.  In this modern world that often rewards mediocrity, an absolutely critical course for all children striving for excellence.

Your child will meet, thank and encourage several 90+ year old WWII veterans who fought in the trenches of Europe, and then honour them at the Cenotaph on Remembrance Day. These courageous individuals experienced horrors we will never know while serving our country, and yet today, many of them feel lonely and forgotten.  In this wonderful course, your child will come to a life-changing understanding of the reasons for war, and be forever impacted by connecting with the hearts of these incredible men and women – before there aren’t any left to connect with.

Giving Hope Today: The Community Service Impact of The Salvation Army
Winter offering: Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday of March Break from 8:30am-1:30pm
The Salvation Army meets human need whenever and wherever it exists.  In this heartwarming course, your child will spend three consecutive mornings volunteering on the front lines of The Salvation Army’s Centre of Hope on Gottingen Street (which includes a homeless shelter, addictions treatment centre, food bank and more), working directly with staff and clients and making a difference in the lives of many who are struggling.  Your child’s confidence and leadership skills will soar to new heights as they embrace increasingly more independent roles each day, all in the service of others.

Physical & Mental Health: Supporting Those Who Suffer
Spring offering: Friday, May 18 from 5:30-8:30pm & Saturday, May 19 & Sunday, May 20 for the day
Your child will spend their Victoria Day weekend learning about the various health-related causes supported at the Bluenose Marathon, meet some high-profile community leaders who are championing these causes, and volunteer their own time and efforts to the fundraising events on both race days.  As another opportunity to give back in a meaningful way, this course will encourage your child to embrace leadership roles that will further stretch their confidence and PR skills.
