The Program
2017-18 Year

While earning her THR!VE Bronze degree, your daughter gets to experience *13* spectacular courses over a 10-month period (September 2017 through June 2018).  Courses – most of which span 3 or 4 sessions – are offered on Monday and Tuesday evenings on a rotational schedule throughout the school year (with a few exceptions, as noted).  Simply choose which offerings work best for your family!  All off-site course components will be taken by charter bus, with the exception of Coffee Shop Mentorship, The Woods & Their Wisdom and World Cuisine Dining, for which drop-off and pick-up will be at specified off-site locations, not at THR!VE.  Most courses are intentionally offered either just before or just after meal times; in the case of the few exceptions, you will be notified well ahead of time if your daughter should bring snacks from home or if a meal will be provided.  Here’s what your daughter gets as a THR!VE Bronzer:

Individual “Coffee Shop” Mentorship & Social Media Connection
Ongoing, year-round

Quality one-on-one time with Wendy, Creator & Teacher-Mentor of THR!VE Education, over treats at a local coffee shop.  From the very first conversation, your daughter will feel known and appreciated, and receive a depth of encouragement and inspiration she’s rarely experienced.  Some mentorship sessions will be scheduled well in advance while others will take place more informally, on an “as needed” or “as desired” basis.  Your daughter will also be invited and encouraged to keep in regular contact with Wendy via social media, as desired.  The point?  She (and you!) will have unlimited access to Wendy’s loving personalized attention and support as she develops into a leader of tomorrow.

“Sit Awhile With Me” Group Contemplations: Growing Up With Grace & Gratitude
Fall offering: Monday, October 2, 16, 23, 30 from 7:00-8:30pm
Winter offering: Monday, January 8, 15, 22, 29 from 6:30-8:00pm
Spring offering: Monday, April 30, May 7, 14 from 4:00-5:30pm

A sacred space for your daughter to talk about the tough stuff, ask the hard questions or just relax quietly, writing or doodling about her hopes and dreams in her new gratitude journal. Whether curled up inside sipping hot chocolate or sprawled out on the grass under a clear blue sky, this course is a refreshing opportunity for your daughter to “get real” – and breathe a sigh of relief as she learns the transformative power of living a life of thankfulness.

“Who I Am” Personal Strategic Planning: What Learning, Living & THR!VING Is All About
Fall offering: Monday, September 11, 18, 25 from 6:30-8:30pm
Winter offering: Monday, February 5, 12, 26 from 4:00-6:00pm

Your daughter will explore what “thriving” means, discover the three steps to becoming the best she can be, and begin setting short and long term goals for her future.  She will be introduced to the process of personal strategic planning and, on her own laptop or tablet, create the first draft of an evolving spreadsheet reflecting the highlights of her past, present and future.  This course features the moving motivational videos of Your World Within and the dazzling photography of National Geographic, and drives home the truth that we can only become what we think we deserve.  A unique and fun challenge that will set your daughter on the path to success and growth in all areas of her life.

Nature’s Peace: The Woods & Their Wisdom
Fall offering: Monday, October 2, 16, 23, 30 from 4:00-6:00pm
Spring offering: Monday, April 30, May 7, 14 from 6:30-8:30pm

A quiet trek through the trees along some of the best trails in Dartmouth.  In both sunshine and rain, your daughter will learn to identify the key species of coniferous and deciduous trees native to Nova Scotia – all while breathing in the fresh scents of nature and feeling the therapeutic effects of being physically active in the forest.  A hiker’s heaven.

Public Speaking & The Written Word: Back to the Basics of Strong Communication
Spring offering: Monday, April 9, 16, 23 from 6:30-8:30pm
An introduction to the life skills of confidently and professionally commanding an audience, and – finally – correctly commanding a pencil and paper!  This fun training on oral and written communication clarifies what public speaking is (and what it isn’t), teaches the basic mechanics of writing (every mark on the page has a meaning and a purpose), instills the verbal and visual components of strong public speaking, and gives ample hands-on practice learning how to effectively use a “live” microphone while delivering an exceptionally prepared written speech.  In this modern world that often rewards mediocrity, an absolutely critical course for all young people striving for excellence.
